"Being in control of your life and having realistic expectations about your day-to-day challenges are the keys to stress management, which is perhaps the most important ingredient to living a happy, healthy and rewarding life."

~ Marilu Henner

Personal note from Shawn

FlowersDear {!firstname},

I'm cozied up here with a cup of hot tea, listening to my neighbor scrape ice off his windshield as his car warms up. BRRRRRR. The sun is beginning to shine through a light patch of Sacramento's tule fog, so that makes it seem warmer! I have to admit it - I'm kind of a wuss when it comes to the cold!

Over the last couple of weeks, I've taken a couple of great teleclasses focused on our changing world and the need for bringing spirituality out more prominently, since faith prevails when everything else around us is crumbing. These are interesting/exciting times aren't they? What are you doing to ride the waves?

I'm also excited to tell you I've completed my Law of Attraction coaching certification program!  It's been nine months of very focused work and, especially towards the end when I've really seen the results of my own life, it's been very exciting!

I wish all of you a wonderful holiday season! May peace and joy fill your hearts, and the hearts of loved ones near and far.

Blessings,

Shawn

EnJOY the Holidays

FlowersPeace. Joy. Love. Those were the words written on one of the most beautiful Christmas cards I received. It was simple, yet elegant and I wanted to remember the words. Peace. Joy. Love. I wanted to experience those feelings throughout the holidays and not get stressed out and snitty. As much as I loved the IDEA of Christmas, all the shopping, crowds, and craziness annoyed me. Christmas felt like it had been turned into being all about the stuff. And the expectations.

Ah, yes, those expectations! One of the best things you can do to more fully enjoy your holidays is to become aware of the expectations you and those around you have about them. Unmet expectations are at the bottom of most upsets. And if you're not clear about what those expectations are, they're a lot harder to get met. Unfortunately, expectations are often unconscious, so you may have to do a little digging. A couple of questions you can ask yourself are "What is supposed to happen at Christmas (or Hanukah or Kwanzaa)?" "What angers me, frustrates me, or troubles me during the holidays?" "What's upset me during past holidays?" The answers to these questions will give you clues to what your expectations might be. Now if you lived in a bubble those expectations would be fine, wouldn't they? It's when they bump up against others' similarly hidden expectations that trouble may occur, so part of enJOYing the holidays is Just Open Yourself...let a little more of you be seen, to yourself and others. At first, it may cause a little ruckus, but then the formerly hidden bumps are at least in the open.

When my husband and I married, he didn't like that my son and I shopped together for each other's gifts. He thought Christmas gifts were to be a surprise. I, on the other hand, had been a single mom on a budget and didn't like wasting money on gifts that weren't what the other person wanted (that may be odd, but it worked for us). Until we both uncovered what our thoughts were, we experienced stress over gift-giving - and that wasn't what we wanted!

Give yourself (and those you love) the gift of uncovering some of your expectations. Just Open Yourself to have more clarity and, just possibly lighten the burden of those expectations. And have a holiday season with more Peace. Joy. Love.

What's that you say? I love to hear from you, and I read every email personally, even when I can't reply to all of them.
